Our Costs Explained

EPIC are unique in what we offer to provide the best understanding of a child or young person’s needs, and the most effective support and therapies to improve their quality of life. We firmly believe our team are able to engage, understand and support children, young people and young adults in a more impactful, and therefore overall more cost-effective, way than many other services.

What is unique about what EPIC offers?

EPIC are unique in providing all of the below to children, young people, young adults and their families and carers.

  • Holistic, consultant-led assessment and oversight
  • Multidisciplinary team discussion and team working
  • Individualised, flexible assessment and treatment pathways
  • Highly experienced clinicians with a range of expertise
  • Prioritised face-to-face contact in our bespoke premises
  • Dedicated spaces for sensory regulation and therapy
  • Dedicated spaces for play and creative activities
  • Support for parents, carers and families
Why are we more cost-effective?

We are a highly skilled, multidisciplinary team that works closely together to make sure every child and young person receives the most appropriate assessment and support in the most effective and efficient way.

If your child or young person meets other members of our team they will already understand the strengths and challenges, so there is no wasted time in retelling your story. It is likely that fewer overall sessions are needed, as our shared thinking helps us to understand difficulties quickly and support meaningful change.

We have a range of thoughtfully designed spaces to make visits more comfortable and accessible, including sensory spaces, a dedicated OT gym, and a creative therapies room. This maximises the information gathering and engagement with your child or young person and ensures all appointments are productive.

What goes into our clinician time costs?
  • In addition to the face-to-face time spent with clinicians there can be several hours of pre-assessment information gathering, including sending, collating and analysing questionnaires and forms, chasing education placements and liaising with families and professionals.
  • We have weekly 2-hour multidisciplinary collaborative discussion of assessment findings with the full EPIC team.
  • Consultants and senior clinicians spend 1โ€“2 hours preparing for feedback sessions, including review of all separate assessment components and information gathered, mapping findings to diagnostic criteria, and analysing whether our findings explain your child or young person’s difficulties.
  • 2โ€“4 hours are taken to write our assessment reports to ensure they reflect your child or young person’s strengths and challenges, accurately interpret the findings, confirm diagnoses where appropriate, and recommend next steps to support you all.
What goes into our clinical team costs?

We ensure that we have a highly experienced consultant and senior clinician team to offer the holistic initial assessments and to oversee assessments, therapies and support.

All of our assessments involve at least two clinicians from different clinical backgrounds. This meets the NICE guidelines for ‘gold standard’ assessments. Although certain presentations can be identified by a single clinician, this is not best practice and does not align with EPIC’s ethos, vision or values.

Our clinicians all have regular clinical supervision time provided from others within the EPIC team, or paid for externally if required. This is a professional requirement.

All of our clinicians engage in further education and training opportunities to continue their professional development (CPD). EPIC financially support this training to ensure our team maintain the highest level of skills and expertise to deliver our services.

We support many of our staff with their annual professional registration or association fees and individual indemnity insurance.

What goes into our clinical resources costs?

All of our standardised clinical assessment tools and questionnaires are provided by external companies and have an associated cost per child or young person for whom they are used. Many require the use of iPads, which we provide for our clinicians.

All of our clinicians are provided with their own EPIC laptops, electronic clinical records accounts and EPIC email accounts to ensure client confidentiality and to meet all GDPR requirements. Where needed, clinicians have their own EPIC mobile phones.

Our clinical spaces are fully equipped to provide our full range of services and to meet the individual needs of all children and young people. Much of this equipment requires regular cleaning, maintenance and replacement.

Our waiting areas are designed to be neuro-affirming, comfortable and provide useful space for waiting parents and carers. We also provide refreshments, as it is important to us that you feel as relaxed and looked after as possible to have the most productive clinical experience.

Our assessments are individually adapted to your communication and support needs. We prioritise face-to-face assessments rather than virtual or telephone assessments to maximise our information gathering and to develop positive, therapeutic relationships. We do not use tick boxes or scripts. Our testimonials show how hard we try to get this right for the families we work with.

What goes into our business and administrative costs?

We have receptionists, administrators, secretaries, and an office manager. This invaluable team ensure that from the moment you first enquire you will be welcomed and supported through the process of assessment and any ongoing support. They ensure all communication, requests, prescriptions, letters and reports are processed, uploaded and distributed.

We have a practice manager to ensure all aspects of the day-to-day running of our clinical services is smooth and of the highest quality.

We have a financial manager to ensure that all aspects of the financial process for clients and for the running of the business are efficient and meet all necessary requirements.

We have the associated costs of our building and parking areas in terms of insurance, maintenance, rent, furnishing, cleaning and utilities.

We have the materials cost to ensure our office runs smoothly with computers, monitors, telephones, printers etc. We have costs to maintain our telephone and internet services, also our website and IT equipment.
