Multidisciplinary Assessments (MDA)

Our consultant-led MDA offers a clear and compassionate understanding of a child or young person’s emotional, developmental, and relational needs. Each assessment is personalised, combining a range of evidence-based psychological questionnaires with two specialist assessments chosen to match the family’s goals and questions. Depending on the child’s age and presentation, this may include:

  • Story Stem Assessment. Exploring emotional themes through storytelling and play.
  • Adolescent attachment interview.
  • Occupational Therapy (OT) assessment. Understanding sensory and functional needs.
  • Language and communication profile. Assessing understanding and expression in the context of attachment and trauma.
  • MIMs Adolescent Attachment Interview. Exploring relationships and attachment patterns.
  • Executive functioning assessment. Understanding attention, planning, and self-regulation.
  • Learning assessment. Identifying cognitive strengths, processing styles, and areas for support.

Every assessment is completed within the context of attachment, trauma, and neurodevelopment, offering a truly holistic picture of a child or young person’s experiences and potential. This process helps families move forward with confidence, understanding what is driving behaviour, what’s going well, and what support will make the biggest difference.

Therapeutic Interventions

EPIC offers a wide range of individual, dyadic and family-based therapies that may be recommended following a multidisciplinary assessment. We have dedicated therapeutic spaces including clinic rooms, sensory rooms, an occupational therapy gym with sensory integration therapy equipment, and a creative therapies room. Therapies include:

  • Sensory Integration Therapy. Improving the way the nervous system receives and interprets sensory messages, enhancing motor and behavioural responses.
  • Creative Therapies (Play, Art, Drama). Using artistic/expressive activities to explore emotions, thoughts and experiences.
  • Trauma Focused Therapies including EMDR. Helping children and young people to heal from traumatic experiences and other distressing life events.
  • Child Psychodynamic Psychotherapy. Understanding the unconscious processes that influence behaviour and emotions.
  • Systemic (Family)Therapy. Understanding and addressing the dynamics within family relationships.
  • NVR (Non Violent Resolution). Focussing on parenting of children/young people with very challenging behaviours.
  • Theraplay. A structured form of play therapy to enhance the attachment between children and their caregivers.
  • Dyadic Developmental Psychotherapy (DDP). An attachment focussed therapy to help children and families heal from trauma and attachment issues.
