ADHD and ADD Assessment for Children and Young People

EPIC offers consultant-led ADHD and ADD assessment for children, young people and young adults from across Devon and the South West. Our assessments go beyond the diagnosis itself to build a detailed picture of each individual’s neurodevelopmental profile, so we can recommend the support, adaptations and interventions that will make the biggest difference.

What is ADHD / ADD?

ADHD and ADD are neurodevelopmental conditions characterised by struggles with inattention, hyperactivity and impulsivity. ADHD and ADD present differently in each individual and can impact negatively on learning, behaviour and emotional regulation. ADHD and ADD are rarely diagnosed under the age of 6 years. It is important that assessment also excludes any other difficulties that can lead to inattentive, hyperactive or impulsive behaviours.

How do we assess for ADHD / ADD?

All assessments for ADHD and ADD follow and are informed by the initial assessment with one of our consultants or senior clinicians. There is no single test for ADHD or ADD. Information is gathered from various sources, using a range of assessment tools, to build a clear picture of a child or young person’s neurodevelopmental profile.

Our ADHD assessment is thorough and includes face-to-face components to be sure we can identify where there are other explanations for ADHD-like behaviours.

Components of our ADHD and ADD assessment

  • Cognitive Assessment
  • Developmental History
  • Computerised ADHD test (for older children)
  • School observation (for younger children)
  • Questionnaires completed by parents and carers, and by the school or education setting

Information on the individual assessment components and what to expect is available from our administration team on request.

What is the outcome?

All of our assessments include a feedback appointment with the consultant or senior clinician to discuss the findings. Recognising and understanding ADHD or ADD is important for providing appropriate support, adaptations and interventions where needed. A full written report with recommendations is provided.

How much does it cost?

  • ADHD or ADD assessment – £2,100
  • Combined ADHD / ADD and autism / ASD assessment – £2,700
  • Where a school observation is required (for younger children), additional travel time and expenses apply

Please see our costs explained.

Frequently Asked Questions

At what age can ADHD be assessed?

ADHD and ADD are rarely diagnosed under the age of 6 years. For younger children showing related concerns, a broader developmental review may be more appropriate as a starting point – your initial assessment with one of our consultants will help determine the right approach.

Can ADHD and autism be assessed at the same time?

Yes. We offer a combined ADHD / ADD and autism / ASD assessment at £2,700, which is more cost-effective than booking the two assessments separately. ADHD and autism frequently coexist, so combined assessment is often appropriate.

What does the ADHD assessment include?

Our ADHD assessment includes cognitive assessment, developmental history, a computerised ADHD test (for older children) or school observation (for younger children), and questionnaires completed by parents, carers and the school or education setting.

Why is face-to-face assessment important?

Many other difficulties can present as ADHD-like behaviours. Face-to-face components allow our clinicians to identify whether what’s being seen is genuinely ADHD or whether something else needs further exploration.

What happens after the assessment?

Every assessment includes a feedback appointment with the consultant or senior clinician to discuss the findings. You’ll also receive a full written report with personalised recommendations for support, adaptations and interventions.
