Eating Disorders Assessment

EPIC offers consultant-led eating disorders assessment and support for children and young people across Devon and the South West. We assess and support ARFID, anorexia, bulimia, binge eating, obesity and weight management, looking at the physical, nutritional and emotional factors involved so we can recommend the right care.

What are eating disorders?

Eating disorders are abnormal patterns of eating, such as restricting food intake, binge eating or purging behaviours like vomiting or excessive exercise. There can be a range of driving factors, such as body-image concerns, difficult emotions including anxiety, a need for control, a lack of appetite and sensory processing differences. Eating patterns and food intake can significantly affect both physical and emotional wellbeing.

What do we offer?

Following an initial assessment with one of our consultants or senior clinicians, we offer a range of further assessments, support and therapeutic interventions for different disordered eating patterns and behaviours (see below). This includes medical assessment for physical health complications and dietetic assessment for nutritional deficiencies. Full reports are provided.

Where physical risks are high, we will recommend referral to NHS hospital-based services. If physical risks are apparent at initial enquiry, we reserve the right to recommend urgent referral to NHS hospital-based services instead.

Our eating disorder pathways

ARFID

Avoidant restrictive food intake disorder: restricted eating linked to sensory sensitivities, a difficult experience around food or low appetite, often alongside autism.

Anorexic / Bulimic Eating Disorders

Assessment and early intervention where restricted eating, body-image concerns or compensatory behaviours suggest an eating disorder may be developing.

Binge Eating / Obesity

Support for binge eating, obesity and weight management, including dietetic input and, where appropriate, weight-loss medication.

Costs

Quotations for costs are always given and agreed before proceeding. Please see our costs explained.
