Trauma and Attachment Assessment for Children and Young People
EPIC offers consultant-led assessment for children, young people and young adults experiencing the impact of developmental trauma, attachment difficulties or adverse early-life experiences. Our assessments are individually tailored to your child’s needs, drawing on a range of specialist tools to build a clear understanding of what’s happening and what will help.
What are attachment disorders and developmental trauma?
Attachment disorders and developmental trauma can present as complex emotional and behavioural difficulties, resulting from disrupted attachments to primary care givers in the early years of childhood, and/or adverse experiences or specific traumatic events during different stages of development.
What do we offer?
Following initial assessment with one of our consultants or senior clinicians, we offer a range of assessments that can be done individually or combined as part of a specialist assessment pathway to explore children and young people’s experiences of trauma and attachment disruption. These include:
- Coventry Grid Assessment
- Story Stem Assessment
- Child Attachment Interview
- Trauma Symptom Checklist for Children
- Marschak Interaction Method (MIM), specific to the Theraplay model
Information on the individual assessments and what to expect is available from our administration team on request.
What is the outcome?
All of the assessments include feedback to discuss the findings, either with the practitioner undertaking the assessment or with the consultant or senior clinician providing overview of the assessment pathway. Recognising and understanding developmental trauma and attachment is important for providing appropriate therapeutic support and adaptations where needed. A full written report is provided with recommendations for understanding, support and therapeutic interventions.
How much does it cost?
Because trauma and attachment assessments are individually adapted and may combine several components, we provide a personalised quotation before any assessment begins. This ensures you know exactly what’s included and what to expect.
For an overview of what’s included in our pricing and how we structure our fees, please see our costs explained.
Adoption, fostering and special guardianship families
For adoptive parents, foster carers and special guardians, EPIC also offers multidisciplinary assessments funded through the Adoption and Special Guardianship Support Fund (ASGSF). This is a separate funded route designed specifically for the needs of children and young people with care backgrounds.
See our ASGSF services page for more about this pathway.
