Assessment Pathways
EPIC’s assessment of children, young people and young adults always starts with a consultant or senior clinician initial assessment appointment. From there, we recommend the specialist assessment pathway – or combination of pathways – best suited to the individual. Our four main pathways cover neurodevelopmental differences, educational difficulties, trauma and attachment, and eating disorders.
How does it work?
Every assessment with EPIC starts with an initial assessment with one of our consultants or senior clinicians. This holistic appointment takes a full view of all concerns and helps us advise which specialist assessments may be needed to further understand any underlying differences or areas of difficulty.
Below are our most popular assessment pathways. Following the initial assessment, your consultant or senior clinician will discuss which pathway – or combination of pathways – is appropriate for your child or young person.
Our assessment pathways
Neurodevelopmental Difference
Autism and PDA, ADHD, dyspraxia and DCD, FASD, DLD, GDD and sensory processing.
Educational Difficulties and SEN
Dyslexia, cognitive difficulties, learning disability and broader special educational needs.
Trauma and Attachment
Attachment disorders, PTSD, complex and developmental trauma.
Eating Disorders / ARFID
ARFID, anorexic and bulimic eating disorders, binge eating and obesity.
Bespoke and combined pathways
Our assessment pathways may be adapted or combined to provide bespoke pathways according to individual needs. Following assessment, recommendations can be made for adaptations, support, interventions and therapeutic approaches.

The initial assessment lets our consultant or senior clinician take a holistic view of all concerns before recommending specific specialist assessments. It means the pathway is tailored from the start, rather than committing to a single assessment that may not capture the full picture.
Yes. It’s common for children and young people to need assessment across more than one area – for example, combined autism and ADHD assessment, or neurodevelopmental and educational assessments together. Combined pathways are planned to be efficient, with shared assessment components where appropriate, and the cost reflects the combined pathway rather than charging separately.
Your consultant or senior clinician will discuss the recommended pathway with you at the initial assessment, drawing on the developmental history, the presenting difficulties, and the questions you and the education or care setting have. You’ll receive a written quotation before any specialist assessment proceeds.
Yes. Each pathway is a guide, not a fixed package. We adapt and combine components based on what the individual child or young person needs – including additional specialist assessments such as occupational therapy, language therapy or neuropsychological testing where helpful.
